SOMA Neighbors Connect Event Provided Useful Info for Residents

The Residential Committee hosted this amazing event to bring SOMA neighbors together. It was an enriching experience filled with learning and community bonding over taking care of our health, our homes and, of course, our SOMA community. Attendees heard from many town leaders and groups about accessing services, building neighborhood connections, understanding the responsibilities of homeowners, insurance issues, and ways to stay healthy. South Orange Village President Sheena Collum and Maplewood Mayor Nancy Adams addressed municipal issues like ordinances and how to get support on nonemergency problems. Health Officer Candice Davenport shared all the services the Health Department offers, and Keldrick Wright from Groove Theory Fitness spoke about the benefits of group exercise classes.

Kristen Tyler and Amy Stuart of SOMA Two Towns for All Ages talked about services for seniors and the ways all neighbors can get to know the seniors on their block. David Robinson from Goosehead Insurance offered advice on the types of insurance homeowners need and what is and isn't covered by most policies. Stephanie Lawson Muhammad of Erasing Essex's Borders shared the mission and talked about ways to get to know the amazing towns and people that surround SOMA. Nicole Josey of Co-Lab explained what this new space for businesses is and how residents can support it. Elizabeth Baker shared the myriad ways blocks can host fun, relationship-building events.

Huge thank you to all of the speakers for their insights! And a special shoutout to The Sandwicheria, Good Bottle Refill Shop, Kristen Smart Cookie, and Two Towns for All Ages for their generous contributions towards giveaways for our attendees. And The Able Baker for refreshments.
