Look Who's Talking About South Orange- Maplewood-- The Online Father's Day Issue of the Star-Ledger !
|
The June 15, 2008 Father's Day Online issue of the Star-Ledger featured an article called "A Double Dose of Dads" about two-dad families in our towns. Nyier Abdou reported on the growing number of familes with two dads. The article quotes Elaine Bennett, co-chair of Amicus/Amica, a fellowship organization at St. George's that works to advance gay issues, saying "Kids in these communities will inevitably benefit....Our kids are going to grow up and be head and shoulders above many other kids when it comes to inclusiveness and understanding people who are different."
Don't miss this terrific article about your neighbors!

Coalition sponsors Conversations on Race: Language, Stereotypes and Communication
|
On Tuesday, April 29, 2008 the Coalition sponsored a forum on how everyone communicates--those unspoken contracts about how we all use words, and sometimes even more important, how we perceive what we say and what we hear. Besides a panel of experts and our special roundtable discussions, there was improvisational theater! The lively and moving actors did a "fluid sculpture" using stereotypical language as well as incidents based on stories told by our own community members. You may also read some of the original stories provided by community members, by clicking here.

Calling All Volunteers! We Need You!
|
Now is the time for all good men (and women). . . . Of course, we're all familiar with the rest of that entreaty, but seriously . . . the Coalition needs your help. If you're a grant writer, a fund raiser, a financial adviser, a web consultant or a photographer (especially one whose digital camera is always handy), please let us hear from you. If you support the Coalition's efforts to enhance and celebrate the diversity of our Two Towns, either call the office (the number's down there) or drop us a line. And VOLUNTEER!
That's what I did: I'm Charles Neighbors, your newsletter editor. And I'm eager to receive your news tips and event schedules, well ahead of time, if you please. Just drop me a line here at the Coalition and I'll get right back to you.
